Long lines, malfunctioning Vote Counting Machines, missing names in voters lists – these are the problems faced by voters piling into various polling precincts all over the country today. Kontra Daya’s monitoring centers have been receiving reports on these election day problems since the doors of the voting precincts opened at 6:00 AM today.
“With more than 1,800 VCMs malfunctioning, around 1.1M voters have been affected.”, says Kontra Daya spokesperson, Danny Arao. Although according to COMELEC, the 1,800 malfunctioning VCMs have been addressed, the long lines and longer voting times are a looming reason for voter disenfranchisement.
