Kontra Daya welcomes the decision of the Commission on Elections First Division granting the petition to disqualify the nominees of Ang Kasangga Partylist Teodorico Haresco and Eugenio Jose Lacson. The petition was filed by members of Kontra Daya including Bayan secretary general Renato Reyes, Jr. ACT vice-chair Benjie Valbuena, Courage chair Ferdie Gaite, Migrante chair Gary Martinez, Anakbayan chair Ken Ramos and SCMP chair Ma. Cristina Guevarra last March 31. The petitioners were represented by Atty. Julius Matibag of the National Union of People’s Lawyers.

The country’s first automated national polls in Luzon were characterized by widespread cases of malfunctioning precinct count optical scan (PCOS) machines and long queues at polling precincts. In many polling centers, elections have been delayed due to such technical glitches, aggravated by slow and poorly organized voting procedures, Board of Election Inspectors (BEI) members still familiarizing with the automated system, and IT consultants lacking skills. In some areas, problems were aggravated by power failure.

Mayo 10 ang araw ng eleksyon. Ang Kontra Daya ay nananawagan sa iyo na maging bahagi ng sama-samang pagbabantay sa araw na ito. Mahalagang maging handa tayo sa mga problemang maaaring iresulta ng kauna-unahang Automated Elections sa kasaysayan ng bansa. Maraming kahinaan ang sistemang ito dahil sa kakulangan ng paghahanda ng Comelec. Dagdag pang problema ang pagpipilit ng administrasyon Arroyo na manatili sa poder sa pamamagitan ng iba’t ibang maruruming paraan.
Kabilang na sa mga maniobra ay ang palpak na paghahanda sa automated elections, pagtakbo ni GMA bilang kinatawan sa Pampanga, paggamit ng partylist system ng mga alyado ni GMA, paggamit sa AFP at paggamit ng mga pera at rekurso ng gobyerno pabor sa administrasyon at mga kandidato nito.
Ang pinakamabisang pangontra sa dayaan at ‘failure of elections’ ay ang mulat, handa at mapagbantay na mamamayan.
Sa araw ng eleksyon, nananawagan kami sa inyo na maging bahagi ng mga nagbabantay kontra sa dayaan at failure of elections. Kung may nakita kayong anumang insidente ng dayaan, problema sa botohan, karahasan at iba pang insidente, ipagbigay-alam agad sa 0921-2953004 at 0915-2332413 o kaya’y sumulat sa kontradaya@gmail.com.

The average time it took the mock voters in New Era Elementary School to vote was 5-6 minutes. That’s inclusive of the fact that they weren’t looking for their names in the voters list (they went straight to the polling center) and they weren’t looking for the names of real candidates in the mock ballot. (As of 10:53AM) Glitches and anomalies marred the mock polls held today by the Comelec in various parts of the country, Kontra Daya volunteers reported.
In Baguio City, transmission of the votes to the KBP server failed three times. Similar problems were reported at the New Era Elem. School in Quezon City.
